White Collars is Shadenova’s most recent practice which explores the shape, symmetry and tessellations of vintage starched collars. The sculptures and their photographic staging all exclusively use white. This decision to limit the works to a single colour may at first appear limiting, but it instead shifts our attention to shape, pattern, form and the intricacies of shadow and tone. Creating new compositions and juxtapositions, the collars become abstract geometric sculptures that echo the forms within ancient architecture. In this way, Shadenova elevates the quotidian into the divine.
